Social bookmarking sites are aware of the fact that some marketers attempt to abuse their system. They are constantly changing how their systems work in order to stay one step ahead.
They know a majority of marketers bookmark their sites by themselves and do not have the money to pay other people to bookmark their sites. Therefore, one or two social bookmarks isn’t really enough any more for you to do well with social bookmarking.
A single social bookmark is enough to get your site spidered, but if you want to get traffic from the social bookmarking site you need more than a single bookmark. You want a minimum of five bookmarks, though ideally you want many more. You can get more through some of the techniques we discuss later on very easily and cheaply. The basic rule of thumb is the more people who social bookmark your site, the better it is for you!
Firstly though, you need to make sure you have targeted the right keywords. Make sure your keywords are long tail keywords that you can rank for and get traffic. Make sure they are relevant to your webpage and are descriptive of what buyers would type in if they were looking for information or wanting to buy.
You next want to create a good description that makes people want to know more about your site. Don’t be salesy in this or you will put people off. Take the mindset that you are someone who has found this site and want to share it because you found it interesting. If you take that approach then you will write something that will get attention.
You also want an attention grabbing title, but again, not salesy! Trying to sell directly in a social bookmarking site like this will put people off and could result in your account being deleted. Make sure you write something that is informative, grabs attention and basically tells people why they must visit your link.
One thing that can be helpful is to rotate different titles and descriptions on different social bookmarking sites. This will ensure that you have a number of different entries, which makes it look even less like you are trying to manipulate the social bookmarking sites. This may not be possible with some tools, but certainly is if you are outsourcing the work.
You can either create yourself a number of social bookmarking accounts on different sites and then slowly add your bookmarks or you can trade bookmarks with friends, family and colleagues. Of course, you can outsource the bookmarking if you want and we will discuss that a little bit later on.
